4 Questions to Ask About Skin Tightening with UltraSlim®

There are several non-surgical skin tightening treatments available on the market today, one of which is red light therapy, the technology used in UltraSlim®.  Red-light therapy, known as photobiomodulation (PBM), has been clinically proven to be effective in the tightening of sagging skin as well as in the reduction of wrinkles and promoting the healing of scars and blemishes. Each of these contributes to a healthy and more youthful-looking appearance, and this has caused red-light therapy to sometimes be referred to as the fountain of youth.

A study from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2012 found that, in contrast to other, harsher, skin rejuvenation treatments such as laser skin resurfacing and intense pulsed light (IPL) that cause limited, targeted damage to certain areas of the skin, PBM was found to be non-traumatic and bypassed the ‘controlled damage’ step by directly stimulating the skin’s rejuvenating processes. The known unpleasant side effects of traumatic skin rejuvenation procedures such as those mentioned above (i.e., inflammation, pain, and prolonged downtime) have not been recorded with PBM.  NIH’s conclusions: that the use of red-light therapy provides a safe, non-ablative (a procedure that works on underlying skin tissue without harming the surface of the skin), non-thermal (not using heat) non-traumatic photobiomodulation treatment of skin tissue which has a high patient satisfaction rate.

UltraSlim® works on rejuvenating and tightening skin by increasing the body’s natural production of collagen, a protein found throughout the body but more abundant in the skin, bones, muscles, and tendons. Collagen is responsible for many things in our body, including giving our skin its structure, elasticity, and firmness.  High levels of collagen result in soft, smooth, firm skin as it helps the skin cells repair and renew themselves, but as the body ages, less collagen is produced, and the structural integrity of the skin diminishes.

The resultant wrinkled and sagging skin is one of the widely acknowledged visible signs of aging, but the use of non-invasive red-light therapy treatments such as UltraSlim® can mitigate this.  As collagen accounts for three-quarters of our skin and a third of our body’s protein, it’s obvious that increasing collagen levels is not only beneficial for the skin but also for overall health. 

Each treatment with our FDA-approved UltraSlim® device will usually last around twenty to thirty minutes with desired results usually being seen in around two weeks.  These results will vary, however, depending on the size of the area to be treated and the number of sessions deemed necessary to achieve the desired outcome.
